Promise of Spring

  • Beautiful sunny f-----g cold day.. -9C and there's a slight breeze. I'm happy to be OFF work today and pursuing other interests.
I thought I'd put my photo in this blog on this, the cusp of the vernal equinox....(March 20th this year @ 730am)

My face says it all...dry, drawn, fed up with house-boundness, hospital-boundness, awaiting the longer sun days...
having open windows, fresh air...being able to go outside and not look stuffed by winter gear...walking maybe running... yep I've even done a few running motions... scary..
    kayaking, gardening.... etc...etc...

Vernal equinox... I'm going to have a celebration on Monday to herald this. I would like a festival to herald the rebirth.

What is it: The date when night and day are nearly the same length and the sun crosses the celestial equator moving northward. YEAH!

The vernal equinox marks the first day of the season of SPRING.
Life will return to the land

The ancient goddess, Eostre, a Saxon deity who marked not only the passage of time but also symbolized new life and fertility, was the key symbol of this celebration which was also know as Ostara. Legend states that the goddess was saved by a bird whose wings became frozen by the cold of winter. This process turned the bird into a hare... yet this was no ordinary cottontail...this long-eared rabbit could also lay eggs! the main symbols for Easter..the egg, for new life or beginnings... and the rabbit/hare...for fertility.
