4th day... Denman/Hornby Island touring

This is our economy...car..Kia...Rio... cheap on gas... small for the ferries... gutless yet..just fine for us.
I took this shot to demonstrate the new growth forest height.

Across from this spot there was a huge outcropping of "Scotch Broom".. apparently brought over from Scotland long ago..and it is not an indigenous to the area..and it in the process of pushing out indigenous species to BC.. so a sign greats you as you approach the island..."please pick and destroy all of the Scotch Broom you come apon during your travels or hikes on our islands..."

Hey, it doesn't look so bad...as a shrub...does it?..

How about this?? That's a large home up on the cliff...to the left..and the whole cliff below the property is covered in scotch broom.. and this huge field as well.. hmmm...
This is the community centre on Hornby Island,
built into a tree stump.

Jannah and I hiked a great trail on Hornby..as our final jaunt before heading off the islands...and I rolled my Lt. ankle severely which has created a long recovery phase... J helped me get back to the car and find ice etc... thanks so much...
Luckily...the car was an automatic...so I could still drive! (I'm not sure when I'll be able to drive my standard!)

Hornby Island is about 75 k north of Nanaimo near Comox... and after our tour of this 2 islands we headed back to Nanaimo...to catch the ferry to Horseshoe Bay at 700pm... as luck would have it...we got on the ferry that was just ready to leave...and didn't have to wait... yeah..small vehicles... The 4 day BC ferry pass was a wonderful way to tour the Gulf islands..and J was a great companion!! Posted by Picasa
